The User

The user uses StorDrive Platform to securely upload and download data using his private keys which are embedded into his login and password. Data is accessible directly via the user's chosen device (computer or phone).

A distributed, P2P cloud network of independent data silos where data is physically stored.

Components of Distributed Cloud Storage Technology

Client-side Encryption

To ensure total security a new AES 256 key is generated at client levels. This ensures no unencrypted files are transferred between two secure points. This coupled with a "zero-knowledge" scheme ensures that no third party, not even the storage nodes, can access the user's data and keys.

File Redundancy

To ensure redundancy, The encrypted file is split into N chunks and then processed into K additional redundancy shards through Reed Solomon Error-Correcting Codes. This procedure allows the retrieval of data even if individual storage nodes go offline, The probability of downtime is lower than 10^-6.

Authorization and Storage Selection

The system runs a fitness function to ensure and nullify the probability of losing files due to natural disasters. In other words, the systems spread data chunks as far as possible, while also minimizing network latency and other important factors like bandwidth usage, storage optimization, etc.

File Distribution

Each of the N+k shards is then stored on a decentralized cloud, called the hosting peers. This ensures that any hosting peers do not contain complete user files but fragments of data in shards. The network is designed to make this possible, The Reed Solomon technology ensures that as long as the least numbers of hosting peers are online, Data can be retrieved.
